Who we are

The data controller for personal information collected through this website is SKJ Home Improvements Limited, a company registered in England with company number 16486651, whose registered office is at 2 Caroline Street, West Bromwich, England, B70 8LB. Contact us about your data at info@skjhomeimprovements.co.uk or on 0800 088 6248.

What information do we collect?

  • Enquiry and quote forms: your name, phone number, email address, the property postcode, the job you're interested in, any message you add, your answers in the guide-price tool, and the page you sent it from.
  • Live chat: the details you type into the chat (including any pre-chat questions such as name, phone, email and postcode), the chat transcript, and technical details the chat service records such as your browser, approximate location from your IP address and the pages you viewed.
  • Phone and email: your number or address and what you tell us.
  • Analytics (only if it is switched on and you accept analytics cookies): how you use the site — pages visited, device type, approximate location and events like clicking to call. This is collected through Google Analytics.
  • If you become a customer: your address, contract, payment records, survey notes and photos of the property and work.

Why do we use it, and on what legal basis?

  • To reply to your enquiry, arrange a survey and prepare a quote — necessary to take steps at your request before entering into a contract.
  • To carry out and manage work you've agreed — necessary to perform our contract with you.
  • To keep records of quotes, contracts and payments, including for tax and accounting — to meet legal obligations, and in our legitimate interests in being able to deal with questions or claims later.
  • To follow up once on a quote you haven't answered — our legitimate interest in responding to people who've asked us for a price. You can tell us to stop at any time.
  • Analytics cookies — only with your consent, which you can withdraw through cookie settings.

We don't sell your information and we don't send marketing unless you've asked for it.

Who do we share it with?

We use trusted service providers who process data on our behalf and only on our instructions:

  • our website and enquiry-handling provider, who builds and runs this site and passes enquiries to us;
  • Web3Forms, which delivers form submissions to our email inbox;
  • tawk.to, which provides the live chat;
  • Google, for analytics if you accept analytics cookies;
  • Netlify, which hosts the website and keeps short-term server logs;
  • our email, phone and accounting providers.

If you go ahead with work, we may share the details needed with people working on your job — for example a subcontractor, a structural engineer, building control or a materials supplier delivering to your address. We'll also share information where the law requires it.

Is data sent outside the UK?

Some providers (including Google, tawk.to, Web3Forms and Netlify) may store or access data outside the UK. Where they do, the transfer is protected by UK adequacy regulations or by contractual safeguards approved for UK data transfers, such as the International Data Transfer Addendum.

How long do we keep it?

  • Enquiries that don't lead to work: up to 12 months from our last contact, then deleted.
  • Customer records (quotes, contracts, invoices, certificates): 6 years after the work is finished, which matches the time limits for contract claims and tax records.
  • Chat transcripts: up to 12 months unless they form part of a customer record.
  • Analytics data: 14 months in Google Analytics.

What are your rights?

You can ask for a copy of your information, ask us to correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how we use it, or ask for it in a portable format. Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it at any time. Email info@skjhomeimprovements.co.uk; we'll respond within one month.

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, please tell us first. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
